Life as Usual

Over time, life becomes very ordinary.  You get up in the morning, prepare for the day, engage in the tasks of the day, prepare for bed, sleep and start over.

Life becomes a redundant predictable existence.  There are ups and there are downs, but the core experience is monotony at best -- and upset or depression at worst.

Never underestimate the power of denial.  But you can admit it; it won't hurt.  In fact, it will enliven you to acknowledge what is so.

You are very adept at disguising, denying, deluding.  Just look at all the distractions humans have created to anesthetize themselves.  They are everywhere.  They show up in all shapes and forms.  What they have in common is their ability to keep your attention focused "out there" so you don't have to deal with what's "in here."

The Contraction Spiral

You are born into a space of innocent openness, natural flow and the spontaneous desire for loving connection.  Everything was you, and you were part of everything.

Your body was your key resource for experiencing the world.  Since your sensations were all taking place in the moment, your attention was also always in the moment.

As you began to learn language and access thinking, you gained facility in the world but you began to lose that feeling of spontaneous, effortless grace with which you were born.

You began to identify yourself, not with everything, but as a separate entity.  Substituting for the direct experience that had been yours, your thoughts of protection and learned behavior became increasingly real to you.

In addition, you began to notice that you were not totally safe.  Since you appeared to be separate (as did all of the beings around you), your survival and your happiness were not assured.  Threatening tensions began to haunt you.

Along Comes Stress

As you grew up, life produced ever increasing stresses every day -- school and business deadlines; the juggling of responsibilities; financial worries; traffic; and hurt disappointments. To these daily stresses add the occasional peak pressures such as job loss; moves; relationship upheavals and confusion; illness, mental and physical traumas; births; and deaths.

As you experience these pressures, your body tightens and your mind gets busy.  You cannot adequately process and release the tension that you experience.  From the time of birth, it has been proven that you literally store and accumulate stress in the cells of your physical and mental bodies.

As you get older, this accumulated stress begins to diminish the quality and fullness of your life.

Life becomes an effort.  Living becomes tedious. You work hard and rest poorly.  Your relationships are often unsatisfying because you have so little energy, enthusiasm and time available for true intimacy and communication.

Productivity is a constant push. Creativity comes in unpredictable spurts.  Intuition is rare or fleeting; so, you have to figure everything out.  Finally, your body becomes deeply exhausted and begins breaking down.

The Death of Free Will

In addition to the external stresses that clutch your body and mind, something much deeper is also going on.  Very early in your life you created protective strategies to make sure that you were OK in the world.

The trouble is that you become so identified with the strategy, IT begins to run YOU.  You may not even notice.  It is difficult to see it yourself.  But others see you more clearly.

Here are some examples of behaviors that you do so often -- and so unconsciously -- that the behavior becomes identified with who you are:

  • "Isn't it just like Susie to change the subject when you give her a compliment?"
  • "John only wants to do his own thing."
  • "If you tell Sheila not to do something, she'll want to do it that much more."
  • "Bob makes a joke out of everything."

    The Mind's Five-Step Contraction

Repetitious, cascading thoughts lead you away from the possibilities for passionate creativity.  At each step, your world becomes more constricted, limited and smaller.

Step One: Thoughts repeated over and over become patterns.  Patterns are automatic responses to certain stimuli.  For example, have you found yourself reacting the same way over and over again to a certain tone in the voice of a loved one?  Even though you wanted to act differently, did you find yourself a powerless slave to your automatic behavior?

Step Two:  From these automatic patterns, thoughts contract their grip on unlimited possibility by becoming beliefs.  Beliefs are a tool of the mind and the supporting structure of human experience.  Notice how your deepest beliefs have led you to limitation and personal survival; and the world to war and scarcity.

Step Three:  From our beliefs about how things are, your thoughts continue to contract their grip on unlimited possibility by becoming moods.  Moods -- how you feel about things -- are the most insidious experience of reality because they are so unconscious.  Moods are the context for your experience of life.

An example from Michael:  "Back in my financial services days, my entire office staff confronted me one day about continuously walking around in an intimidating mood.  At the time, I had no idea what they were talking about.  Looking back, I understand that I lived with an unconscious mood running underneath everything."

Step Four:  From moods, thoughts contract into stories.  Stories narrow possibility even further by justifying why things are the way they are and why you are the way you are.  Of all the possibilities for why you feel this way (have this mood), the story you choose locks you into a static position.  Stories are interpretations of experience - not the experience itself.  Have you ever noticed how your story about something changes over the years or depends on your audience?  Which story is the "truth?"

Step Five:  From stories, thoughts finally contract into impossibility.  Eventually, thoughts justify why things are the way they are without any exit door.  Someone is at fault—you (guilt) or someone else (blame).  Victim or victimizer, you are trapped, powerless - stuck!

By the time you are an adult, this automatic patterning in your
thoughts and behaviors is like a computer program that runs on its own.
You don't even need to be there for it to react...

The sad thing is that you don't even realize
that you are not "present" - to yourself or to anyone else.

Even though the patterns are designed to protect you, you still find your thoughts consumed with fear of the future and regret for the past.

Sometimes, you have been able to suppress those negative thoughts.  But they reside like a snake under a rock, ready to strike at any time!  They sap you of your energy and life force.

Fear and regret rear their ugly heads in the most insidious ways, such as a decision not to engage in a potential relationship, or crippling inertia in the face of a business opportunity. Creating escape through addiction is a common – and usually quite visible – way of reacting to deep emotions.

Fears, regrets, and emotional upsets transform your world
from a place of potential and possibility
to one of avoidance, uncertainty or stagnancy.

In your consciousness, the stress and the patterning cause you to contract, restricting the flow of your energy.  In short, you become smaller, and less powerful than you truly are.

The good news is that you can recover from this built-up stress and patterning.  You can operate 'in the moment' and watch your automatic programs load and run without being lost in them. You can regain the vitality, spontaneity, and joy of a happy, young child.  Even what you perceive as stress will decrease.

Getting back to the Spirit of your authentic self – all that you were meant to be – is easier than it has ever been before.  It has always been a process of letting go; but HOW to let go has been a mystery - a mystery that we have solved.

We actually know the directions and the access points to the site of Spirit.  We developed Integrating Stillness so that you can transcend your experience of life from the limitations of the mind to the unlimited possibility of Spirit in just five days.

Reverse the Spiral and Expand

No problem can be solved from the same consciousness that created it.
We must learn to see the world anew.
--Albert Einstein

Your mind is what got you here, a state of contraction and limited possibility.  You cannot expect it to expand you.  Only You—your spirit—can expand you.

You find your way back to a life of innocence, curiosity and unlimited possibility through desire and navigation.

Navigating home to the limitless "You" is the process and promise of Integrating Stillness.  You Experienced Stillness in your weekend retreat.  You gathered some distinctions in a new way of being -- but living there is another matter.

The Integrating Stillness Retreat will empower you to live in stillness as a way of being - easily and forever.  Integrating Stillness is the new Advanced Curriculum course most equivalent to the Week At Ease.

The process is simple, yet profound.  It starts with gathering in a small group with others who have the same intent as you -- to return to a pure, undefended state of being. With the group intention, you will gently and continually open and relax your body.  As your body opens and relaxes, your mind naturally quiets.  As your mind quiets, clarity and possibility abound.  From clarity and possibility, you make distinctions about your true nature and the nature of reality.

There is a place of quiet peace where your body is in a state of relaxation and pleasure, and your awareness is unrestricted; expanded. We invite you to return to that place, deeper and deeper over the five days, learning to make the distinctions and knowing how to clear the restrictions so that you can live there all the time.

For five days you will resonate in the deepest frequencies of stillness (expanding and beyond).  Your body/mind will discover the new address in consciousness.  Sustained deep frequencies "re-boot" your body/mind to a new way of being.  The contractions—holding and defensive patterns in the body and limiting repetitive thoughts in the mind - that have plagued you since childhood will release.  You will experience profound relief and sustained release.

From the deeper levels of stillness, you will be given the tools, techniques and distinctions to preserve and deepen your stillness out in the world.

During the retreat you will
  • Ground in restful alertness over an extended period.
  • Expand your consciousness so that the process of letting go and expanding is integrated into your body/mind.
  • Perceive clearly where you expand, where you contract.
  • Learn exercises, which you can do at home, to keep you opening.
  • Nourish your body/mind with deep rest, giving much attention to your body's relaxation and pleasure.

Begin your journey now!

But You Must Act Quickly!
